Light fixtures are simple to install and can add a touch of style to any building project, home or commercial building.

Follow our basic instructions on installing light fixtures below!

  • First, make sure the power is turned off. This is one of the most crucial steps and will keep you from getting electrocuted and causing other physical harm to yourself or others.
  • Next, connect your wires. A typical box for a light fixture will consist of three different wires: a white (neutral), copper (ground) and a black (current). Permanent fixtures often include a plate that will be connected to the two screw holes on either side of the box, and it is easier to have that done before connecting the wires.
  • Wires may be attached to the fixture in a variety of ways. One of the most common ways to connect wires is by wrapping them around screws to make a connection. Use a wire stripper to remove about 3/4 of wire sheathing. To attach to screw connections, bend the wire into a U-shape, wrap around the screw, then clamp the wire closed and tighten the screw. (White wire to silver screw, black wire to gold screw, ground to green screw.)
  • A pull-chain fixture is usually attached with two screws that go directly into the box, but you may also have just one screw directly on the mounting plate. Once the fixture is mounted, install a light bulb and turn the power back on!
